Have you ever really noticed how an activity makes you feel? Not just whether you like it or not, but how it truly impacts your mood, energy, and overall balance?
It’s easy to assume that an activity itself is responsible for the way we feel. A walk makes us feel refreshed, a workout energizes us, a film might lift our spirits. But is it really that simple?
Let’s test this idea.
I always feel calm and rebalanced after a walk on the beach or through the woods. But does that mean walking itself is the magic ingredient? Not quite. A brisk walk through a crowded city centre at lunchtime certainly doesn’t have the same effect! Maybe it’s the beautiful scenery? Possibly—but I could walk through a stunning historic building and not feel as peaceful. So, is it just about being outdoors? Again, not necessarily. If I’m being rushed, stressed, or watching the clock, that peaceful feeling disappears.
The reality? How an activity makes you feel is an intricate blend of factors—the environment, your mindset, your energy level, your focus, even how much time you have to fully experience it.
The Jedi Approach to Energy & Balance
This is where Star Wars offers a perfect metaphor. Jedi don’t just use the Force. They learn to control it, harness it, and understand how to bring themselves back into balance when things feel out of sync. Their power doesn’t come from blindly wielding energy—it comes from deep training, patience, and self-awareness.
And the same applies to us.
In modern terms, people talk a lot about “flow”—that state where you’re completely absorbed and energized by what you’re doing. But flow alone doesn’t create balance. You might be "in the zone" while working or exercising, but that doesn’t mean you’re fully replenishing your energy. It’s like trying to fight off the Dark Side using one move—it’s not enough.
Instead, you need to train yourself like a Jedi—learning which activities fuel your energy, which restore balance, and which help you snap out of a bad mood.
How to Control Your Own Force
At any moment, your energy and mood are shifting, just like the Force. The trick is to recognize when you’re off-balance and consciously choose an activity to realign yourself.
Step 1: Identify What Restores Your Energy
These are activities that fill your tank and give you sustainable energy:
A walk in nature (woods, beach, open fields)
A long bath with essential oils
Yin yoga or meditation
Step 2: Find Your Mood Resets
When you feel off, these activities can break the negative pattern and realign your mindset:
Boxing, cycling, running (anything that gets the heart pumping!)
Yoga or deep stretching
Self-myofascial release (foam rolling or massage)
Step 3: Have Quick Mood Boosters Ready
If your energy is okay but your mood needs a lift, try:
Watching a funny film or TV show
Chatting with a friend or family member
Treating yourself to something small (like a hot chocolate or fancy chocolate bar)
Final Thought: Becoming a Master of Your Own Force
Jedi don’t wait for the Force to fix things—they train to control and balance it. Likewise, you don’t have to be at the mercy of low energy, stress, or bad moods. The key is to understand your own rhythms and know when to shift gears.
In the next article, we’ll go deeper into how to map out your own personal Force Chart, tracking which activities bring balance, energy, and clarity, so you can consciously shape your days instead of feeling like life is happening to you.
Until then, may the Force of energy and balance be with you!
